ABOUT HORMONE RELATED HAIR LOSS

We all can experience hair loss for a variety of reasons. The most common form of hair loss observed in both men and women is hormone-related hair loss, Knowna as androgenic alopecia (AGA). AGA causes hair to thin, shorten and lose density over time. It is particularly common after events that cause changes in hormones- for example puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. In women, thinnig is typically observed in the part of the hair. In men the pattern is seen as a receding hair line or thining on the crown.

About HydraFacial Keravive: The Scalp Facial

Keravive by HydraFacial uses the brand’s proprietary 3 step Vortex Fusion technology to unclog the hair follicle and cleanse the scalp. After the scalp is decongested a Peptide and growth factor infused serum is delivered to further nourish your scalp leaving fuller, healthier looking hair. For this reason, Keravive is a great option to improve dry, itchy or flaky scalp. Think of Keravive as a “facial for the scalp” unclogging the hair follicles, removing congestion, and improving blood circulation under the scalp.

This makes Keravive the perfect complement to PRP injections. Keravive scalp treatments encourage better uptake of the PRP resulting in more effective results.

About PRP Scalp Injections

PRP is 5 times more concentrated than regular blood. It is created by taking whole blood and removing the other components of the blood. This concentrated form is then drawn up into a syringe to be used for injections into the scalp in areas of hair loss or thinning.

PRP is particularly helpful for hormone-related hair loss, because it releases growth factors that reverse the changes caused by AGA. Injecting PRP into the scalp increases blood flow to the hair follicle, stimulating new hair growth, and increasing the active growth phase of existing hair to slow down hair loss.

For best results to improve hair thinning, loss and growth issues, we recommend a dual treatment approach:

Step 1: Prep the Scalp with KERAVIVE HYDRAFACIAL

HydraFacial Keravive acts as a “facial for the scalp” unclogging the hair follicles and removing congestion. This helps create an optimal environment for the hair follicle to grow and encourages better uptake of PRP injections. We recommended this treatment 2 weeks prior to your PRP injection appointment.

Step 2: Kick it up a notch with PRP INJECTIONS

The hair now has multiple modalities working to encourage growth. Adding your body’s own growth factors to the equation with PRP injections can increase the hair volume and thickness that regrows.

For optimal results, this protocol should be repeated until a series of 4-6 sessions is completed. After that we recommended maintenance treatment of Keravive HydraFacial every 3 months and PRP Injections every 6 months.

Keravive by HydraFacial

Keravive is the first of its kind scalp facial that boosts scalp health and natural hair growth. It is an inclusive hair treatment that anyone can benefit from! It is designed for all hair types including braids, extensions, locks, dyed hair and more. This treatment can help scalp issues caused by stress, hormone imbalances, or build-up of hair products.

PRP

Most of the research on PRP for hair loss has been focused on a specific type of hair loss known as androgenic alopecia (AGA). There is not enough research to determine if PRP is suitable for other types of hair loss due to stress, auto-immune related (alopecia areata), or scar related. While it is a safe procedure, we do not recommend it for clients with platelet-related disorders or other blood related diseases. Clients with these diseases have a lower chance of result efficacy es their platelets are compromised, and it may not be safe for them to undergo the procedure.

FAQ

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT TREATMENT IS BEST FOR ME?

If you are just starting your hair care journey The Hudson Team is here to help! We recommend meeting with one of our providers to discuss if you are a good candidate for HydraFacial Scalp Keravive and/or PRP injections or a combination treatment. If deemed appropriate we can provide a treatment plan to get you on the path to thicker, fuller hair.

HOW MANY SESSIONS OF PRP OR KERAVIVE ARE NEEDED TO SEE RESULTS?

For Keravive, we recommend 3-4 sessions 1 month apart, followed by a single maintenance session every 3 months.

For PRP scalp injections, we recommend 4-6 sessions 1 month apart, followed by a single maintenance session every 6 months.

DO I HAVE TO DO KERAVIVE WITH PRP INJECTIONS?

No, our hair loss program is customizable to each client. Keravive is a great solo treatment for those looking to improve their scalp and hair health.

While we recommend the combination of PRP with HydraFacial Keravive, you can choose to have PRP injections without Keravive.

DO THE PRP INJECTIONS HURT?

The scalp is a difficult area to numb if hair is present as the topical numbing agent will not be able to penetrate past the hair. To help alleviate the discomfort of the injections we can make the experience more relaxing with nitrous gas (also known as laughing gas) for an additional fee.

If the treatment area is absent of hair, we can apply topical anesthesia to ensure your procedure is comfortable. You can expect this numbing to last up to a few hours after the procedure.

WHAT ARE THE POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRP INJECTIONS?

You may experience some residual redness and bleeding the first two days after treatment. We recommend avoiding any blood-thinning medication and exercise for the first 24 hours. Make sure to stay out of the sun and wear sun protection (sunscreen or a hat) during the first week as your scalp will be more susceptible to sunburn.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR PRP INJECTIONS?

Before your PRP treatment, let us know if you take any blood-thinning medications to ensure a safe and successful procedure. We also ask that you abstain from drinking alcohol a few days before your treatment. You should avoid Aspirin, Naproxen and Ibuprofen a week prior to the procedure.

Be sure to arrive on time for your treatment. After the blood is drawn, there will be some downtime while the PRP is being concentrated. Many clients like to bring a book or their computer to use during this downtime. The procedure itself is fairly quick once the collection and preparation of the PRP is complete.
